I was start to work with blog since 2004. At first i just know about blogspot or blogger platform. I don’t know much about blog rather than native website which is create using HTML tag.


Wordpress blog platform come to my attention and start using it somewhere in 2007. Today i was create lots of blog using both platform. Most of them are free hosted and least self hosted.

According to my experience on both platform, they have an own good features, unique and abilities.

I don’t want to talk about blogger much but on this post i will share about wordpress themes.

Wordpress theme basically comes with two type of ownership which are free distribution and paid or premium version.  Both type working perfectly for most blog and server but some limitation for free wordpress themes. Before using any theme user must comply to Terms of Service (TOS) or any others requirement from the original developer. One of the requirement was, you cannot removed footer link or developer signature.

Wordpress theme comes with complete theme, tools, plugins and might be some additional but this is too rare.

After spinning throughout blog sphere i found this site which is compile various stunning themes, plugins, theme review, tutorials, tips and many more. You can select theme style like 2 column, 3 column, widget ready, adsense ready, SEO friendly and much more.

Installation is quiet simple. Normally installation instruction will bundle with the theme in one folder. Others question not covered you may ask directly to respective owner.

Step to install wordpress themes: (i consider you have your own hosting/server)
01. Download the wordpress theme you like using any tools like ftp client software
02. After downloading open or unzip it. Read the instruction (normally readme.txt)
03. Check if all files are in there like what has been listed.
04. Login into your server. example- www.mydomain.com:XXXX (XXXX is a server port number)
05. Upload the whole theme folder to wp-content/themes. You can rename the theme folder to anything you like.
06. If uploding was successful next step
07. Login into your wordpress dashboard (www.youdomain.com/wp-admin) and activate your new theme.
08. At this stage you was successful to install new theme for you blog.

Tips

i. Before you changing your theme, make sure to make backup and see if your new theme support widget (other word for widget is sidebar)
ii. Don’t remove or delete your old theme, you can use it back just in case something goes wrong with the new theme or installation
iii. Don’t change your theme too regular (not good for SEO).
iv. After changing the theme make sure your layout position are not change. This make easier for user to do navigation.
v. You may want to alter some css style according your feel.

Gadget is a new phenomenon to all people today. It was a catch-all word for nifty devices. There is lots kind of gadget including clocks, watches, digital jewelry, restaurant pagers, communication and more. Gadget lovers comprise one market segment of the high technology industry that is often driven by intrinsic motivation which is contrary to the mass market.

Plugin are similar to gadget function. The purposed of plugin was to enhance the core function of specific platform. In this article we talk about IT platform.

I always surfing everyday and looking for new gadget in the market. I’m not going to buy it all but just to alert the new trend in technology though gadget price are normally expensive.

For example this universal remote control from logitech are very useful and superb technology. The device is compatible for home appliance like tv, satellite box, DVD player, digital media player,game console, amplifier and more than 5,000 popular brands and devices  are supported.

As i mention from my previous post, backup is a most important and critical to do to every web master. You may want to backup your web pages, databases, information from inventory control, customer databases or article post like this. If you used shared hosting make sure that your service provider will backup your site everyday or at least once per week. If you look for online backup services you may try service from them and evaluate the overall performance. I must say that backup is simply a way of controlling risk. Risk of losing data forever.

Spice Up Your Blog with Google Gadgets!

I was login into blogger today and notice some enhancement. You are not see ‘Add Element’ any more. It was replaced by ‘Add a Gadget’

Double click it to open and you will see this (following). Much pretty and easy to manage. Menu are at left side for you to choose.

You can access Gadgets from your dashboard under the Layout | Gadgets tab (the tab formerly known as “Layout | Page Elements.”)

Gadgets is our robust Gadget Directory, which lets you browse through thousands of cool gadgets and add them to your blog with a simple click of a button.

Referring to categories above, which mean you can add more and more gadget into your blogger.com base blog. You may also add your own gadget. What a fantastic features.
