We are recruiting an Executive Director who is eager to launch this initiative and create a major avenue to build a leadership pipeline for Episcopal and Anglican clergy and lay leaders. He or she needs to be both an “intellectual entrepreneur” to create the content for the programs (and tap the right presenters) and be an able administrator who can run a multi-faceted initiative, with budgetary and staffing responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Dean of the Berkeley Divinity School, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and overseeing all of the Leadership Programs described below:
- the residential program for clergy
- The short-term courses for clergy and lay leaders
- the public programs and podcasts available to all
- Collaborate with colleagues and partners within Berkeley Divinity School, Yale Divinity School, the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion to design and implement program strategy and content, using best practices for in-person and digital pedagogies; this requires staying abreast of other leadership programs, both secular and those of other denominations, to draw insights for the BDS programs and to work with other professional schools at Yale, which might contribute to the programs (particularly, the Schools of Management, Law, Environment and Public Health, and Global Affairs.)
- Design, organize and host a regular podcast series with Episcopal and Anglican voices on challenges and opportunities facing the church today
- Oversee the details of all of the foregoing programs and the budgeting and staffing required for each, always attentive to conforming to the available budget
- Develop, in connection with the Assistant Director, compelling marketing materials (both print and online) to communicate the suite of new programs
- With Director of Advancement, to act as fundraising steward for the initiative to engage donors and keep them informed of the impact of their giving
- Develop and execute ongoing robust assessment systems to track the impact of the programs and to ensure the right data is captured to measure the effectiveness of the programs
- Oversee the Assistant Director of Leadership Programs, who will (i) undertake admissions and recruitment efforts (ii) promote the programs online and with relevant audiences, and (iii) work to execute the programs, under the Executive Director’s supervision.
- If qualified, the Executive Director will have the opportunity to contribute as a lecturer in appropriate Berkeley programs and especially in the Spring Leadership Colloquium
Qualifications
- Master’s degree, ideally in theology or related discipline
- At least 5-10 years of experience in ministry, leadership development, innovation, or another relevant field
- “An intellectual entrepreneur” with a proven track record of building programs
- Familiarity with digital and in-person pedagogies and contemporary media
- Excellent presentation skills, both orally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills
- Active working knowledge of the Episcopal Church, or demonstrated willingness to learn about the needs and aspirations of the Episcopal and Anglican communities
- Commitment to the mission of Berkeley Divinity School
