What is Robin’s Role in the Story?

Considering how famous the Straw Hat Pirate is, the crew serving under its banner is relatively small. Except for Luffy, there are currently nine people who serve as the crew of the Straw Hat Pirates. In contrast, other Supernovas like the Fire Tanks Pirates and Hawkins Pirates have many more crew members than the Straw Hats.

Needless to say, with such a skeleton crew, each member has a pretty specific role to fill. Zoro as the main warrior, Nami as the sailor, Sanji as the chief, Chopper as the doctor, Usopp as the gunner, Franky as the shipbuilder, Brook as the musician and also Jinbe as the helmsman. What about Nico Robin? What role does an archaeologist like him play in the story?

Who is Nico Robin?

To better understand Nico Robin’s role in the story, let’s first briefly talk about who she is. The first encounter of the Straw Hat team with Robin is in Arabasta. She was vice president of Crocodile’s Baroque Works, codenamed “Miss All Sunday”. Arabasta joined the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of its broadcast.

Robin is the only survivor from the island of Ohara, a small country in West Blue where most of the world-renowned archaeologists and historians live and work. The island of Ohara was destroyed by Buster Call because the world government saw their knowledge of the empty century as a threat to them.

The only survivor of the people of Ohara and the only person in the world who can read poneglyphs, Nico Robin is number one on the world government’s most wanted list. They went as far as to label Robin as the Demon Child to make common people despise Robin.

However, Robin’s hunger for knowledge is still alive and well. Indeed, the real reason Robin wanted to join the Straw Hats back then was to explore the world, find the Poneglyphs, and uncover the secrets of the Empty Century.

What is Robin’s Role in the Crew?

As mentioned earlier, everyone in the Straw Hat Pirates has a specific role to fill, but what role does an archaeologist like Robin play in the Straw Hats’ daily activity? In fact, he is responsible for many things.

One of Nico Robin’s most important duties is to be a source of information for his teammate. Robin is without a doubt the most knowledgeable person on the Straw Hat team. As a historian, he has a vast knowledge of all kinds of things. Watch Robin’s Daily Posture, which shows Nami the way to Skypiea, and, based on the skull she’s just reconstructed, St. Like when Briss told her crew to reveal her true identity.
